Well, nothing is more personal than sharing your goals.
The whole new year resolution thing is not for me. Never has been.
Traditionally, January is winter. We are not supposed to be operating at full speed and full capacity every month of the year as if it were a permanent summer.
I am much more inclined to do a word of the year. However let me confess: I don’t actually remember what my word of the year was last year, hopefully this blog post will help me keep on track for 2025!
My Word of The Year for 2025
STEADY.
How I chose my word of the year
I was on a connection call with some of my closest business friends discussing our potential words for the year and it was just not coming to me. Once I got off the call and gave it some thought, I landed on the word STEADY. Then, I opened up Pinterest and searched my word of the year on Pinterest. I wanted to see if I could fill a Pinterest board with inspiration around this word…and I did.
How to use Pinterest for your word of the year
Secret tip from me to you friend, make a SECRET board on Pinterest. Keep it secret because it’s personal. This is not associated with your business account. However, if you have a personal Pinterest account you can make the board secret or not, your choice. If you are making the board on your Pinterest business account keep it SECRET!
Then search your word on Pinterest. See what inspirational pins come up that can continue to encourage you to pursue that word of the year.
The wonderful thing about this idea is that every time you open up Pinterest, your home feed will be filled with more inspirational pins related to your word of the year! So you will continue to be inspired as the year goes on.
So back to my personal word of the year. STEADY. Why did I pick that?
2024 was an interesting year for me. I was coming back to a business I had to walk away from for most of 2023. Truthfully, this time last year I was overwhelmed just contemplating all that could possibly lay ahead. I doubted how successful I could be without jeopardizing my health again. I needed to find my new limits.
Personally I had always struggled with boundaries within my business and I knew I needed some badly!
I knew I needed to take care of my clients, take care of my business and take care of me. Amytime needs a healthy Amy to keep it going.
I am very happy to share that overall 2024 was a mostly healthy year. I learned more about my capacity, suitable turn around times and project deadlines. I worked with truly delightful clients. I got to meet incredible business owners and make friendships within this business world I had no idea were right around the corner from me, literally. Charleston is bustling with female business owners!
So for 2025, I chose the word STEADY. Life can feel like a rollercoaster at times, we can feel caught up hanging upside down some days, but how can we feel steady? How can we get off the rollercoaster? Or, how can we get back to steady ground soon after a rollercoaster ride we simply had to endure?
What my word of the year means
STEADY means regular, supported, even and continuous in development, frequency, or intensity.
Life is going to continue to throw us off balance at times. Running a business is never linear. Your personal development and health is never smooth sailing. Accepting that, being okay with that and focusing on what you can do, each day, each week, each month is a key to maintaining your happiness. So as I start 2025 with my word of the year STEADY in mind, my intention is to pace myself. Realistically, in client work, in content creation and in growing my own business. Nothing is ever as urgent as it feels.
Always remember, life is meant to be lived and enjoyed.
Being a business owner is supposed to be enjoyable too!
So I encourage you to pace yourself too. Find the joy in each day. Take care of you and the rest will happen.
