A Dream Home in the Lowcountry: My Visit to the Southern Living Idea House 2024

Earlier this month, I had the incredible opportunity to tour the Southern Living Idea House in Kiawah River, South Carolina. As a longtime fan of Southern Living magazine, I've always been captivated by their vision of Southern living, and hearing they were building this year’s Southern Living Idea House nearby was so exciting! This home truly exceeded my expectations.

As a Pinterest Manager, I can spend many hours each day looking at Home inspiration but nothing compares to seeing such inspiration in person.

Nestled amidst the serene beauty of Kiawah River, the Idea House was a stunning blend of modern design and classic Southern charm. The exterior, with its elegant white facade and multiple porches, perfectly complemented the lush, Lowcountry landscape. Oak trees surround the property.  As I stepped inside, I was immediately struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere.

The interior design was a masterpiece. Every room was thoughtfully decorated with a mix of antique and contemporary pieces, creating a timeless and sophisticated feel. The living room, with its cozy fireplace and stunning views of the river, was my favorite. The kitchen, featuring high-end appliances and custom cabinetry, was a chef's dream. That kitchen belongs on Pinterest for sure.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Idea House was its seamless integration with the outdoors. The expansive patio, complete with a grilling area and outdoor fireplace and pool, was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.

My visit to the Southern Living Idea House was a truly unforgettable experience. Not only did I get to tour a beautiful home, but I also gained valuable inspiration for my own living space. If you're ever in the Kiawah River area, I highly recommend visiting the Idea House. It's a must-see for any fan of Southern Living or home design.

My Personal Highlights

One of the aspects that truly stood out to me during my visit to the Southern Living Idea House was the seamless integration of the home with its natural surroundings. The kitchen, with its expansive windows overlooking the lush gardens, was a particular favorite. The screened-in porch provided a comfortable and inviting space to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about pesky insects, and the giant fireplace was to die for!

The guest carriage house was a charming addition to the property, offering a private and comfortable retreat for visitors. It had everything you could possibly need. The small kitchenette and dining space was perfectly equipped. The gardens were meticulously landscaped, featuring a variety of native plants and flowers that complemented the Lowcountry setting. You all know how I feel about my flowers!

I was also impressed by how every window in the home was designed to take advantage of the stunning views. The large oak trees, a hallmark of the Kiawah River area, were a prominent feature in the landscape, adding to the home's natural beauty.

I posted a Reel recently with some of my favourite parts of the home and a carousel on Instagram, I lost count of how many photos and videos I took!

Conclusion

My visit to the Southern Living Idea House in Kiawah River was a truly inspiring experience. The home's design, architecture, and landscaping perfectly captured the essence of Southern living. If you're ever in the area (before December 22), I highly recommend taking a tour. It's a must-see for anyone who appreciates beautiful homes and the Lowcountry lifestyle.

The Idea House is still open to the public for tours from through December 22, Thursday through Sunday. You can purchase your tickets to tour here.

I highly suggest planning to stop by the brand new Auberge resort The Dunlin for a drink or two afterwards, within the Kiawah River development.
